Dr Samar Mubarakmand

Dr Samar Mubarakmand was Born on September 17, 1942 at Rawalpindi. Dr. Samar Mubarakmand did his Master in Physics from the prestigious Government College Lahore in 1962 with Academic Roll of Honour. To fulfill his ambition to become an experimental Nuclear Physicist he chose the world renowned Oxford University under the supervision of a very well known Nuclear Physicist Professor D.H.Wilkinson. After joining P.A.E.C in 1962 proceeded to Oxford University where he performed as Member of the Team of Scientists which installed and commissioned the 22 millions volt Atomic Accelerator and was awarded D.Phil Degree in Experimental Nuclear Physics in 1966.  As a pioneer, used fiber optic technology in Pakistan and introduced the technique of interference free data transmission through optical fibers. In recognition of valuable contributions in the field of Nuclear Physics, the President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan awarded the prestigious civil award of Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 1992.  As Member (Technical) P.A.E.C & Team Leader of Scientists/Engineers conducted Nuclear Tests for Pakistan. All the six tests were successfully conducted on 28th & 30th May, 1998. In recognition of valuable contributions to the Defense of Pakistan, the President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan awarded the prestigious civil award of Hilal-i-Imtiaz in 1998.  Performed as Team Leader and played a key role in the conception, design and execution of the indigenous programme of surface to surface, solid fuel, SHAHEEN Missile system. The first successful flight-test of Shaheen-I was carried out in 1999. In recognition of the outstanding contribution to the Strategic Defence Programme, the President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan awarded the highest civil award of Nishan-i-Imtitz in 2003. In recognition of his meritorious & dedicated services, outstanding contribution in the field of Nuclear Physics, Strategic Defense Programme, and making the defense of motherland strong & invincible Dr. Samar Mubarakmand was also awarded   Dr. Nazir Ahmed Award, Fellow of Pakistan Academy of Sciences, and International Scientist of the Year 2007.   Dr. Samar Mubarakmand served as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Science & Technology(from December 2007 to April 2008).   Dr. Samar Mubarakmand joined Planning Commission, Govt. of Pakistan as Member (Science & Technology), Islamabad on 16-12-2008.

Lance Naik Muhammad Mahfooz Shaheed

Lance Naik Muhammad Mahfooz was born in 1944 at Pind Malikan (District of Rawalpindi) and was enlisted in the 15th Punjab Regiment as a sepoy in 1962. In 971 Indo Pak war, he was serving in the 'A' Company and his unit was deployed on the Wagah-Attari Sector near Lahore. The enemy advancing elements pinned down his company positions by unceasing frontal and cross fire from automatic weapons. In the process, his machine gun was destroyed by an enemy shell, but it did not dishearten the spirited Lance Naik, who advanced bare handed towards an enemy bunker whose automatic fire had inflicted heavy casualties. Even though wounded in both legs by shell splinters, when he reached the bunker he stood up and pounced on the enemy, but was hit. Although unarmed and amidst the enemy, he got hold of one of the enemy and was strangling him when another bayoneted him to death during the night of 17th December 1971. Living true to the traditions of the Punjab Regiment, whose three officers had already won Nishan-e-Haider, Lance Naik Muhammad Mahfooz also showed no less courage and gallantry in winning the fourth medal for the Punjab Regiment. Pin Malikan has now been renamed as Mahfoozabad.

Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed

Captain Muhammad Sarwar was born in village Singhori (Rawalpindi) in 1910, and joined the British Army (infantry -Punjab Regiment) in 1944. Upon creation of Pakistan he joined Pakistan Army. In July 1948 with war in Kashmir with India, Captain Sarwar launched an attack causing heavy casualties against a strongly fortified enemy position in the Uri Sector under heavy machine gun, grenade and mortar fire. On 27th July 1948, he volunteered to cut the enemy's barbed wire barrier to pave way for the move forward of his follow up comrades. However, while doing so he received a direct burst of enemy's heavy machine gun fire, and embraced shahadat at the spot. For his courage, selflessness and bravery, he was awarded with the first Nishan-e-Haider. Call it a coincidence, that the recipients of next two Nishan-e-Haiders were also from the Punjab Regiment.

Javed Sheikh

Javed Sheikh is a Pakistani actor, director and producer who is involved with Bollywood, Lollywood, and Pollywood films.

Sheikh's first movie as actor was the Lollywood film Dhamaka, released on 14 December 1974. He since acted in over 100 Urdu films from the 1970s through to the early 2000s.

The first film he directed was Mushkil, released in 1995.. In 2002, he directed Yeh Dil Aap Ka Huwa and also had a supporting role in the film.

In 2005, he switched to acting in Bollywood films and appeared in the films Shikhar (film) (2005) and Jaan-E-Mann (2006). In 2007 he appeared in Namaste London, Om Shanti Om and the Pakistani film Mein Ek Din Laut Kay Aaoon Ga. In 2008, he played a supporting role in Jannat. His most recent film as director was Khulay Aasman Kay Neechay which was a big-budget film and was shot in four different countries i.e. Pakistan, India, UAE and Australia. The film was a flop at the box-office resulting in a net loss of Rs. 8 Crore.

Currently Sheikh is working in a multi-cultural British film, Honour Killings which is based on the burning problem in United Kingdom i.e. killing people in the name of honour. The film is directed by Avtar Bhogal and produced by Harijinder Singh. The film stars a mix of Pakistani, Indian and British actors including famous Pakistani model and actress, Zara Sheikh, Prem Chopra, Gulshan Grover, Tom Alter and newcomer Sandeep Singh. The film's shooting has been completed in England and plans are for a March 2010 release. Premieres will be held in Lahore, Mumbai and London.

Sheikh will play an supporting role in Syed Faisal Bukhari's Bhai Log. He is filming Syed Faisal Bukhari's second film Saltanat since January 2010 and will star alongside Mona Laizza and Ahsan Khan.

Sheikh's first marriage was with Zinat Mangi, a small time TV/film actress of that era with whom he has a daughter, Momal and a son Shahzad. After divorcing her, he had a long affair but short marriage with Salma Agha, another famous British born Pakistani singer/actress of that time. Since then Javed Sheikh has had several relationships with famous actresses like Neeli and Sana. Although it is widely assumed that he had a brief marriage with Neeli but both parties deny it. Since the divorce from Salma Agha, he is still officially single. In April 2009, in a morning television show on Geo TV, Sheikh admitted that he has moved to India to facilitate his working in Bollywood films.

Shaikh Rasheed Ahmad

Shaikh Rasheed Ahmad (born November 6, 1950) is a Pakistani politician and writer. He served as the Federal Minister for Railways in Pakistan from 2006 to 2008. His previous portfolio have included appointments as Federal Minister for Labor and Manpower, Information and Broadcasting, Industries, Sports Culture, and Tourism and Investment.

Shaikh Rasheed ahmed was born in Rawalpindi.[citation needed] He studied at Rawalpindi Polytechnic College and later at Gordon College. He completed his Bachelor of Laws at the University of Lahore. Throughout his education, Shaikh Rasheed was very active in student politics.

He was first elected to the National assembly of Pakistan in 1985, and was re-elected a record six times.

He used to be the right-hand man of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif but left Nawaz League and joined the newly formed Muslim League to get into ministership again. He is hugely popular in Rawalpindi and is known for creating a large number of schools in that city. He is famous for his 'awami style' (public style) of politics. He is one of few politicians who started their political career at grass roots level and rose to prominence. He is the author of Farzand-e-Pakistan, and is currently working on another book, Sub achha Hai.[citation needed]

Shaikh Rasheed ahmed was appointed Federal Minister for Railways in May 2006 and served in that capacity until 2008.

He lives in Lal Haveli in the heart of Rawalpindi. Lal Haveli has become a tourist destination due to its beautiful, ancient architecture.

Lal HaveliHe has been organizing a big public meeting on the eve of 14th of august (independence day of Pakistan) at his residence Lal Haveli and the firework show is extremely popular among the people of the city and hundreds of thousands people turn to watch this show every year.

He also ran a jihadi training camp in the late 1980s.[1] This is stark contrast to his contemporary politics as a staunch supporter of "enlightened moderation".

In the February 2008 general elections, Shaikh Rasheed lost both of his Rawalpindi constituencies, NA-55 and NA-56.[3] after his defeat, there were rumors that Shaikh Rasheed had fled to Spain,[4] however, these allegations were later discovered to be false.[5] In June 2008, he announced formation of new political party, awami Muslim League.

Sir Mohammed Anwar pervez

Sir Mohammed Anwar pervez is the founder of one of the UK's ten biggest privately owned comapnies, Bestway Holdings which employs over 2.600 popel nationwide in a network of 27 cash and carry stores.

Born in Rawalpindi in 1935, Sir Anwar moved to the UK in the 1950s and became a British suject in 1960.

Sir Anwar worked for four years as a conductor and Driver in Bradford, often working seven days a week.

In 1962 he established a convenience store in Earls Court, London. Liek all entrepreneurs, Sir Anwar was constantly looking for new ventures and opportunities and, recognising the potential of the whoelsale market, in 1976 he established the first of many cash and carry outlets in Park Royal, London.

A quarter of a century later he has outlets in the UK, with an annual turnover of £1 billion. His business empire now includes a cement factoryin Pakistan, rice milling facilities in the UK and the White Pearl basmati brand.

Sir Anwar believes that there is more to business than jsut making money. Through the Bestway Foundation, 2.5% of the companys pre-tax profits are ploughed into charitable work in the UK and Pakistan.

Sir Anwar was given an OBE in 1992, and has also been knighted.

n March 2000, Sir Anwar Pervez, was awarded Hilal-E-Pakistan, a top civil award by the Pakistani Government for services to the Pakistani nation.
